GenEx petrol generators for South India sites and shops

Power cuts and grid delays should not stop your work. A petrol generator keeps your tools, lights and pumps running on site, in the shop or at an event. HMS supplies GenEx petrol generators across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Goa. We have sold these since 1999, so we know what holds up in real conditions.

This guide explains the two GenEx ranges, how to read kVA, and which model fits which job. If you want a full sizing walkthrough with load examples, read our article on what size generator you need for a construction site.

Portable or silent: which range fits you

GenEx comes in two types. Both run on petrol.

Portable petrol generators

Open-frame design. Lighter on the wallet, easy to move with a wheel kit or two people. Good for construction sites, borewell work, temporary shops and outdoor jobs where some engine noise is acceptable. The range covers 3.5kVA to 9.5kVA.

Silent petrol generators

Built inside a sound-insulated canopy. The canopy cuts noise and protects the engine from rain and dust. Pick this for showrooms, offices, clinics, homes, weddings and any site near houses where noise is a problem. The range covers 3.5kVA to 7.5kVA.

How to read kVA the simple way

kVA is the rated output of the generator. Your appliances are usually marked in watts or kW. A rough working rule: 1kVA gives you about 800 watts of usable power. So a 5.5kVA set handles close to 4,400 watts of steady load.

Two points many people miss. First, never load a generator to its full rating. Keep steady use to about 70 to 80 percent so the set runs cool and lasts. Second, motors pull two to three times their running watts at startup. A pump or compressor that runs at 1,000 watts may need 2,500 watts for a second when it starts. Size for that surge.

Running and care tips for South Indian conditions

Heat, dust and monsoon rain are the three things that wear generators out here. Keep the set on level ground with clear air around it. Clean the air filter often during dry dusty months. Check engine oil before each long run. Use fresh petrol; stale petrol gums up the carburettor. Run the set under some load now and then if it sits idle for weeks.

For an open portable, give it a tin roof or shade in the rains. The silent range already has a canopy, but still keep it off wet ground.

Petrol or diesel for site work

People often ask why these sets are petrol and not diesel. For portable use, petrol sets start easily even after sitting idle, run quieter, weigh less and cost less to buy. Diesel makes sense for very large fixed loads that run many hours a day. For most South India sites, shops and events in the 3.5kVA to 9.5kVA range, a petrol GenEx is the practical choice and easier to live with day to day.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a portable and a silent GenEx generator?

A portable generator has an open frame, costs less and is easier to move, but the engine noise is heard. A silent generator sits inside a sound-insulated canopy that cuts noise and shields the engine from rain and dust. Pick portable for open sites and silent for showrooms, offices, homes and events near houses.

How many watts does a 5.5kVA generator give?

As a working rule, 1kVA gives about 800 usable watts, so a 5.5kVA set handles roughly 4,400 watts of steady load. Keep actual use to about 70 to 80 percent of that for a long engine life, and allow extra headroom for motors that surge at startup.

Which GenEx generator is best for a construction site?

For a small site with lights and a few tools, the 3.5kVA or 5.5kVA portable works. For sites running heavier tools along with a pump or compressor, choose the 7.5kVA or 9.5kVA portable. Send HMS your load list and we will match the size.

Do GenEx generators run on petrol or diesel?

All GenEx generators in this range run on petrol. Petrol sets start easily, run quieter than diesel and suit portable site use, shops and events. Use fresh petrol and avoid stale fuel that can clog the carburettor.
